Our education program trains more teachers than any other private college or university in Kansas. With small class sizes, dedicated faculty, and intellectual resources, we produce educators who are knowledgeable, caring, reflective, visionary, collaborative, and ethical. Our programs offered allow you to choose between a role as an elementary school teacher, high school teacher, or special needs early childhood teacher.
Our classrooms are SMART classrooms, giving students access to all of the technology that is used in area schools. Daytime and evening classes allow students flexibility in becoming an educator. Students in the secondary education program may work towards licensure in biology, chemistry, physics, English, history, or mathematics.

Career Outlook
While pursuing a degree in education, our students can expect a promising future. The education field is projected to grow steadily between 2014 and 2024, as a large number of teachers retire each year. Elementary school teachers, high school teachers, and special education teachers are expected to see a job growth of 6%. Our students are prepared to meet the expected demand for educators.

Internships
Our students have the opportunity to gain real-world experience by student teaching in the Wichita community. This allows you to adjust to a classroom environment and further your goals of becoming a full-time teacher.
Get Involved on Campus
One of the best ways to find success during your college career is to get involved in campus clubs and organizations. Within our education program, our students can join Pi Lambda Theta, an international honor society for education. This organization allows for personal growth, networking, and future career success.

Success Story — Brandi Boese, Class of 2015
Brandi Boese, an education major, knew she wanted to teach overseas after graduation. Newman University gave her the chance to teach overseas before she walked across the stage at graduation. During her 2015 Thanksgiving and Christmas break, Brandi had the opportunity of a lifetime when she was asked to travel to Bangalore, India to run the Aradhana Academy, a K-12 school. According to Brandi, this was the perfect way to experience the differences between education systems in India and the U.S. Brandi kept a blog about the experience, writing, “Getting a first hand experience in another country's curriculum and educational system was absolutely great. I was able to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for both India's system and our own."
Success Story — Sarah Mcdaniel, Class of 2011
Sarah McDaniel graduated as an education major in 2011, and just one short year later, she received a prestigious award. Sarah was teaching biology and anatomy at Wichita South High School when she found out that she had been selected as the recipient of a Distinguished Classroom Teacher Award. She was selected for the award in the New Teacher-Secondary category. One of Sarah’s teachers explained her success by stating, “Sarah McDaniel belongs in a classroom full of eager students. She is a natural because she is interested in every subject and carries forth an enthusiasm for learning that is exemplary."
